LASER World of PHOTONICS 2019
The number of innovations by new players in the photonics industry is growing from year to year. The world’s leading trade fair LASER World of PHOTONICS, from June 24 to 27, offers an ideal platform for start-ups continuing to improve their market opportunities: young companies’ innovative ideas, prototypes and products get to meet a broad-based, international public of industry representatives. Students and young engineers as well will find a program at the trade fair.
Following the successful premiere of the start-up joint stand in 2016, this will be the third staging of the photonics start-ups platform at LASER World of PHOTONICS. Founders will be showcasing their innovations and services on a 200 square meter stand.
The trade fair highlights for founders
Young companies from eight countries have submitted their applications for this year’s Start-Up Award. The submissions will now be assessed by a high-quality jury comprising scientific and industrial representatives. Trade fair visitors can be up close and personal when the finalists pitch for victory and the winning company is chosen (June 25 starting at 10:30 in the Photonics Form). The accolade will be awarded in collaboration with British publishing house Europa Science. In addition to the award, worth 5000 euros, there is yet another opportunity for start-ups to attract capital: the European Photonics Venture Forum (June 26 and 27).
A jury comprising industry experts will select 30 start-ups to take part in the Photonics Venture Form. The jury includes representatives from Bosch, Trumpf and Zeiss. The event is organized by TechTour, Photonics21 and ActPhast are partners.
The Venture Forum it is an opportunity for the start-ups to present themselves to international investors and venture capitalists. They also benefit from a special mentoring course and can schedule one-to-one meetings with all Forum participants.
Photonics talent at the Make Light Makeathon
The need for photonics personnel will continue to grow with the onward march of Industry 4.0. LASER World of PHOTONICS affords an optimal opportunity with the 24-hour MAKEATHON on June 25 and 26 in Hall B2 to get to know photonics talent and the digitally-savvy movers and shakers of tomorrow. This contest sees students and young engineers competing to create prototypes from ideas. Following a successful premiere at LASER World of PHOTONICS 2017, this is the second time the Makeathon will have been held; the partners are again ITQ and Conrad Elektronik and this year new Infineon, with the talent competition once more being supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the Make Light initiative. The event provides recruiters in Munich with a lively complement to the careers advice service—lso in Hall B2—which will again be a collaborative forum with consulting group Wirth + Partner bringing together employers from the Photonics sector and interested applicants.
New: Escape-Bus and QR-Code Rally
Five players take on the role of engineers and must successfully complete an expedition—this is the scenario for the Escape Bus in Hall B2, in which the photonics professionals of tomorrow can prove their knowledge and improvisation talent. There will also be a kind of scavenger hunt, the so-called QR-Code Rally, where students will have to visit various exhibitors at the stand in order to correctly answer a questionnaire. Young Targets is organizing this recrutainment-program.
